Programs Offered for Three, Four and Five-Year-Old Children

temp

CK's Little Red offers three programs for preschool children.  Below are the guidelines we follow for placement into the classrooms, although exceptions are made based on the capabilities of each individual child.  Discussions between teachers and parents help to ensure that each child is placed in the classroom that best suits his/her needs.

3-year-old Classroom

* These students typically enter the classroom as three-year-olds or turn three by September 1st of the school year.  Many of these students do not turn four until late spring or summer during the school year.  Children must be completely potty trained and able to attend to their toiletry needs.

* This classroom is designed to be an introduction to school with emphasis on learning social skills.  The students experience art, music, literature and daily circle-time activities that tie in with our monthly themes.  There is also independent work time wherein the children use the Montessori materials to develop pre-math and pre-literacy concepts.  An outdoor playtime is also part of the school day.

* The students attend school Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 8:30 - 11:30 a.m. during the school year.

* 24 children are enrolled in this class with three teachers with degrees in Education, all of whom have been with CK's Little Red Schoolhouse for many years.

4-year-old Classroom

* These students typically enter the classroom as four-year-olds, or turn four by November 1st of the school year.  Again, the students must be completely potty-trained and able to tend to their toiletry needs.

* This classroom introduces the concept of "teacher table time" where children receive literacy and math instruction daily in small groups.  The students also have art, music, literature and daily circle-time activities that tie in with our monthly themes.  Classroom activities and materials are designed to foster all areas of the children's development including physical, emotional, social, cognitive, and language.

* The students attend school Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 8:30 - 11:30 a.m.

* This class typically has 26 students with three teachers with degrees in Education and many years of teaching experience.

5-year-old Classroom (Pre-Kindergarten)

* These students typically enter the classroom as five-year-olds, or turn five by March 1st during the school year.

* This is our pre-kindergarten classroom, wherein students are prepared in all respects for kindergarten.  The students have art, music, literature and daily circle-time activities that tie in with our monthly themes.  Classroom activities and materials are designed to foster all areas of the children's development including physical, emotional, social, cognitive, and language.

* The students attend school Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 8:30 - 11:30 a.m.

* This class typically has 28 children enrolled with three teachers with degrees in Education and many years of teaching experience.

Extended-Day Options:

Although CK's Little Red Schoolhouse does not offer any extended day programs, there is a Mother's Day Out program located in the same building that serves only CK's Little Red Schoolhouse students two days a week for students in the the four and five-year-old classes and one day a week for students in the 3-year-old class.  This option is offered to students on Mondays and Wednesdays from 11:30 - 2:30 p.m. for students in the four and five classes and Tuesdays from 11:30 - 2:30 for students in the 3-year-old class.  If interested, please contact Becky Cornelius with Greystone Mother's Day Out for more information at 943-4096.

Rave Reviews

"As amazing as it sounds, Little Red has exceeded every expectation that I could have hoped for my children's early introduction to education."

"Our son's kindergarten teacher has told me several times what a joy it is to have the kids from Little Red - that they are always extremely prepared for the structure, the class work and the social interactions expected in kindergarten."
