FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions

1. What happens if my child is not completely potty-trained by the start of the school year?

We have had many calls from panicked parents in the days leading up to the first day of school.  If the child is not completely potty-trained and still having accidents, we encourage parents to send their child in a pull-up.  The program is only for 2 ½ hours and most children can manage that time frame without any problems.  It has been our experience that most children suddenly become potty-trained when they see their peers using the bathroom instead of wearing pull-ups.  If the accidents persist, we will call the parents to discuss the situation further.

2.  How are Christ the King Catholic School and CK's Little Red related?

Christ the King Catholic School and Little Red Schoolhouse recently formed a partnership which takes effect for the 2010-2011 school year.  The new school, which is now an early childhood branch of Christ the King Catholic School, is called CK's Little Red Schoolhouse.  For more information relating to the merger, please review the LETTER FROM DIRECTOR under the GENERAL INFORMATION section or call the school at (405) 843-1416.

3.  How do I schedule a classroom birthday party?

Please call the office at (405) 843-1416 to set up a birthday or half-birthday party.

4.  How do the teachers handle discipline problems?

We give several warnings to children who are being disruptive or interrupting a classroom activity.  If the behavior persists after several warnings, the child is placed in a time out chair.  Harmful and aggressive behavior is immediately stopped and addressed.  For the most part, Little Red is a very happy, positive and orderly place and we have very few behavior problems.

5.  What is phase-in?  What can I expect the first day of school?

Our phase-in process is where the parent(s) attend school with their child the first day of school.  A letter is sent in August with the phase-in schedule for each child.  Children new to Little Red are grouped together and children returning are grouped together for the phase-in groups.  The child and parent attend school for a scheduled hour. This gives an opportunity for both the child and parents to warm up to teachers and the school setting.  During the phase-in hour, parents attend an information meeting with the directors regarding policies and expectations for the school year.  Parents need to bring a copy of the student's shot records on the phase-in day.

6.  How does CK's Little Red communicate updates to parents?

We send home a monthly newsletter at the beginning of each month.  This newsletter will also be electronically sent to parents' email addresses at the first of each month.  Newsletters are archived in our website under the "Newsletter" section.  We will also communicate reminders of special events and/or snow days through emails and/or phone calls.

7.  Does CK's Little Red offer any summer programs?

Yes, we offer several summer camps called "Camp Little Red."  We typically have four camps offered in three-day sessions from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.  Each session has a different theme such as Science Camp, Art Camp, Space Camp and Zoo Camp.  We take 20 children and have two certified teachers for the class along with a junior counselor.  Information relating to the summer camp can be found on our website under the "Summer Programs" section and dates for upcoming camps are communicated to parents via the newsletter around the first of March.  Camp is open to enrolled CK's Little Red students only.

8.  Are there any extended day options at CK's Little Red?

Although CK's Little Red Schoolhouse does not offer any extended day programs, there is a Mother's Day Out program located in the same building that serves only CK's Little Red Schoolhouse students two days a week to students enrolled in the four and five-year-old classes and one day a week for students in the three-year-old class.  This option is offered to students on Mondays and Wednesdays from 11:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. for students in the four and five-year-old classes and on Tuesdays from 11:30 - 2:30 p.m. for students in the 3-year-old class.  If interested, please contact Becky Cornelius with Greystone Mother's Day Out for more information at 943-4096.

9.  How is my child's progress communicated?

We have annual parent/teacher conferences in February.  Parents receive both written and verbal evaluations at the conferences.  We also call parents to discuss any concerns, problems or incidents that need to be communicated.  We highly encourage parents to call or email the school or teachers if there are any issues they would like to discuss.  Parents have access to the teachers home phone numbers in the directory.  We feel that open and honest communication with the parents is essential for a positive school atmosphere.  Feel free to contact us at (405) 843-1416 or contact@littleredschoolhouseokc.com.

10.  Does the school meet all fire code and safety regulations?

Yes!  CK's Little Red is licensed through the Oklahoma Department of Human Services and we are visited twice a year by DHS staff to ensure that we meet all safety regulations.  Additionally, we comply with all fire codes.  Our playground equipment meets all safety codes and the teachers at Little Red are certified in CPR and First Aid.  We also have one teacher who is a trained Pediatric Nurse.

11.  How can I get involved in my child's classroom?

There are ample opportunities to be a part of your child's classroom.  Parents can attend any school event that they wish.  Parents can come up to the classroom to observe their children as often as they like.  Additionally, we circulate a sign up sheet during the phase-in process where parents can sign up to help out with classroom parties and events.  Our parents tend to be very involved in their children's preschool experience -  something we encourage and embrace.

Rave Reviews

"The teachers provide not only a kind and positive example for the kids to follow, but they also truly care about each child and their individual personality and they make every effort to foster a learning and growing atmoshphere."

"Our third child is starting Little Red this fall and we are so excited to watch her really begin to learn.  We believe our older children are the wonderful students and compassionate people they are because of the education they received at Little Red.  It is so much more than just a school."
