Our theme this week is SCIENCE CAMP. This year will be a hands on, experiential learning experience for our kiddos. There will be lots of experimentation and discovery going on during work time with handling powerful magnets, digging for fossils in the sand table, watching our classroom ants dig tunnels and many other classroom science activities. We will also have special science experiments each day culminating with a giant geyser on the last day. Mrs. Rieger has many fun art projects planned including making our own silly putty and fossils. We will also have a special guest speaker - a geo-physicist from Chesapeake has volunteered to come and talk to the kids about the Earth, rocks, fossils and dinosaurs. He is planning to bring some samples of his extensive fossil collection, so this should be quite a treat! We know your child will have a great time this week!
The Camp will provide snack each day. Please make sure your child has a packed lunch with him/her each day. Drinks will be supplied by the camp - no need to pack drinks in your child's lunch.
If you arrive later than 9:15, please note that we will be down at the playground. Please bring your child to the playground if the class is not in the classroom. You may want to have your child come to camp with sunscreen and bug repellant on each day. Have your child dress in cool and comfortable clothes and shoes - no flip-flops please!
On Thursday, June 23rd, we will be performing a special science experiment the last 10 minutes of the day (12:50 p.m.). This will be a very messy experiment and will be held outside on the Greystone lawn. If you would like to see it first hand, please arrive about 10 minutes early to watch our campers make a huge geyser!
I would highly recommend Camp Little Red. We just finished our third summer there and my children have been exposed to so many wonderful things. Camp Little Red taught my children through mixed methods such as music, art, stories and creative play - all while they were having fun! My six-year-old daughter knows about the aquatic food chain, how many days it takes to reach the moon, and why she likes the art of Claude Monet "better" than that of Vincent Van Gogh! I believe Camp Little Red would be a great experience for any child.
